A friend of mine was out thrifting and she found a vintage couch she thought I’d like to have. She not only sent me a text from the store (on the other side of town from me) but she paid for it so I wouldn’t have to rush there before someone else would claim it. Isn’t she great?? Thank you Karina!
This is what the couch looked like when we picked it up.
Nothing really wrong with it, in fact the upholstery was in great shape.
It was just a little… blah!
It sat at my house for a while because I couldn’t work up the nerve to start working on it. I had a client stop by to drop-off a chair to be painted and she came with a friend. Her friend fell in love with the couch and she placed a deposit on it. That meant I couldn’t put it off any longer and I HAD to start working on it!!
So needle nose pliers, an assortment of screwdrivers and hammer in hand, I set off to start removing the old stuff from it.
If there has ever been point in a project where I asked myself…
WHAT THE HECK DID I DO?????
This was definitely it!
But wait… it gets worse.
I really thought I had reached the point where I’d ask my husband to grab the keys to his truck to help me take this baby to the dumpster
I wish I had taken more pictures of the process but since I didn’t hold much hope for this poor guy, I sort of skipped the picture taking.
Do you want a sneak peek…
More…
OK, I’ll let you see the whole thing!
Isn’t he great??
My client didn’t want the tufting so all of the button holes were covered and new foam added for a smooth, clean look.
All the wood parts were painted a creamy white with several layers of brown and gray glaze.
A little double welt trim to cover staples and joints and he was ready to go!!
I loved the end result and after spending HOURS and HOURS working on it I didn’t want to let it go. But I did and I know he is being loved and enjoyed at his new home!

The couch is wonderful! I am a diy lady in Katy. You give me courage to expand my projects. (Not sure my husband will thank you for that LOL)
Do you have any advice on upholstery? Some of my projects are cost prohibitive because I use someone else to do the upholstery. Are there any places that are your favorite places to shop for fabric? Thanks for all the inspiration!
I am so impressed by your upholstery skills!
i featured you at my party today!!! and i wanted to remind you that Dec 12th you are a my ‘Monday’ Guest Blogger! xx
Oh my this is awesomeeeeeeeeeeee! I know the feeling of wanting to chuck something in the trash! And I must admit I have chucked a chair or two, but I didn’t really regret it. However, I would not be able to toss that chair! You did a great job!
That turned out beautifully! t.xoxo
What a great couch, I love it. I used to have an old wood and feather couch but it got destroyed when I was out of the country. I miss that couch so much.
I’m in LOVE!!! (with the chair of course) I’ve been looking for one to makeover but have not found the perfect one yet (aside from one on craigslist that they wanted $1500 for and it was in very poor shape)
Would love to see you DIY Home Sweet home.
