Meet Florence…
Well, my garage is clean and organized but I haven’t been able to paint much. It is cold!!! Maybe not as cold as it is up north but us Houston people are not used to or prepared to handle this.
Here’s one project that I was able to complete between cold spells. This is probably the longest 9 drawer french style dresser I’ve had. Florence is 80″ long. Here she is before her transformation.
Florence was purchased by Tiffany before I started working on it so she got to select her color. Tiffany picked Sherwin Williams “Minor Blue”, no distressing or antique glaze and she asked for the hardware to be painted silver. No big deal right?…Wrong!
Florence had plans of her own because after sanding, sealing, priming, sanding again, sealing again, priming again and three coats of paint, I still had some bleeding on the drawers. Not terrible but since the piece was not going to be glazed, it was going to be very noticeable.
I sent Tiffany an email to give her the news. My suggestion was to glaze the piece to make the bleeding blend in. Here’s her response…
“OK, I trust you (no pressure there)… glaze it baby!”
Yep, no pressure! So I did, I glazed it. Now remember she wanted blue, pure blue. I didn’t think she would like the result with a Teasteined glaze. I quickly mixed a batch of grayish, silverish glaze and went over the whole thing. Ahhhhh much better!
I painted the hardware with a gray base coat and RL silver over it which is the same silver I mixed into the glaze.
I felt a lot better about the look but I was still nervous that it was not going to be what Tiffany had in mind. She had to drive a couple of hours to pick her up, I didn’t want her to be disappointed!
Thankfully, she LOVED IT! She even sent me the sweetest email once they got her home…
“We got the piece home and I love it–it is perfect. There is only one bad thing about it, when I look at it all I see is the dust on top of the piano, the laundry on the sofa, and the Dr. Pepper stains on the carpet. It is so beautiful that it makes everything else look not…..”
Thank you Tiffany for allowing me to “just do”! It did make me nervous but I am so glad you loved it!
Talk to you guys soon!

I love how it turned out! No wonder Tiffany was pleased!
OMG OMG OMG. I would have snapped that right up! Carried it on my back home, even.
Beautiful! I think we can all relate to that feeling of not wanting to disappoint a client and yet not being able to do much better with what we've got. You did a GREAT job of coming up with a solution and making it work! It's no wonder that she was thrilled!
